Congregation Ner Tamid, is proud to announce "From Sand to Sequins - How did the Jews help to build Las Vegas?", a fascinating lecture on the history of the Jewish people in Southern Nevada. The event will take place on November 15th at 7pm, and will feature a discussion with CNT’s Rabbi Sanford Akselrad and special guest Dr. Michael Green, associate professor of history at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The event will be moderated by Ira Sternberg of TalkAboutLasVegas.com.

The upcoming event is part CNT’s Compelling Conversations with Rabbi Akselrad lecture series, an ongoing series of thought-provoking discussions about Jewish life. Rabbi Akselrad has been the spiritual leader of the congregation for more than 30 years. Through the Compelling Conversations series, he has lead previous discussions on Jewish Ethics and The Hill and Beyond Thoughts and Prayers, Acting Together About Anti-Semitism.

Dr. Green is considered one of the foremost experts on Nevada history. His contribution to the upcoming event will include highlights about what brought the Jews to Southern Nevada, the roles that Jewish residents took in Southern Nevada communities, and the movers and shakers who left a legacy. He will also share special anecdotes and stories from his personal collection of Southern Nevada knowledge.
