LATKE VS HAMANTASH…
RABBI STEVEN ROSENBERG DEBATES CANTOR JONATHAN FREIDMANN
PRESIDENT MARK ROSENFELD REFEREE ON SHABBAT: MARCH 13
Did you know that since 1946, a comedic tradition of combativeness occurs every Purim? It’s a great debate. Started at the Hillel at the University of Chicago and spilling over on to the campuses of the Ivy League, discoursed and debated by such esteemed provocateurs from U of Chicago’s Nobel-Prize Winner, Milton Friedman, to Harvard’s Alan Dershowitz, and to many other university professors, fraternities, sororities and synagogue leaders alike, this Jewish food fight marches on, or should I say, swallows on.
History shows that you don’t have to be Jewish to be part of the debate nor is there a set script for it. The tradition is about the creative discourse and perspective the participants bring to the debate.
ON MARCH 13, AT OUR PURIM SERVICE, YOU’LL WITNESS THE BKB GREAT DEBATE…
A FOOD FIGHT OVER DELICIOUSNESS, TRADITION & THEN SOME…
ARE YOU A HAMANTASH OR A LATKE?
COME READY TO STAKE YOUR CLAIM…
BE THERE…OR BE SQUARE!
