Our hearts go out to the communities of Houston, San Antonio, Galveston, Corpus Christi and other areas that have been hammered by Hurricane Harvey, including Jewish communities still recovering from flooding two years ago. With record breaking rain having fallen and expected to continue, extensive damage continues to mount.
We, Jewish Nevada - Nevada's Jewish Federation, have opened the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to support the communities and the victims of this natural disaster.
Our colleagues in Houston report that the amount of rain and resulting flooding has surpassed that of the massive storm two years ago. Bayous and tributaries are flooding beyond their banks and roads are impassable. People whose homes are flooding are being advised to go up to their roofs so they can be evacuated; emergency workers were evacuating stranded residents through the night of August 26.
We know that several Jewish communal institutions that flooded on Memorial Day weekend two years ago have flooded again, but communities in the affected areas won't be able to start assessing the scope of damage to institutions and members of their communities until the rain stops and roads become passable. Nevertheless, the people of Texas need your help now for immediate relief.
All funds collected will go directly and immediately towards disaster relief through our national partner the Jewish Federations of North America, who will distribute money in cooperation with Jewish Federations and relief agencies in affected areas.
Please donate to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
