The Michael A. Cherry Tikkun Olam Community Service Award is given to those dedicated to “Tikkun Olam,” which reflects the highest ideal of the Jewish people, namely to “repair the world.” It demonstrates the same commitment to social justice as the award’s namesake, former Nevada Supreme Court Justice Michael A. Cherry.
Recipients Florence and Gard Jameson founded a charity, Volunteers in Medicine, that has helped thousands of low-income uninsured individuals receive medical care. Additionally, Gard chaired the Interfaith Council of Southern Nevada, founded the Interfaith Contemplative Center, and is involved in Compassionate Las Vegas. Florence Jameson is a prominent OB-GYN.
The L’dor V’dor Award, literally “from generation to generation,” is CNT’s newest award and it recognizes those in the next generation who successfully embody our Jewish culture’s values, rituals, traditions, and history.
County Commissioner Michael Naft and his wife Lauren are part of the next generation “repairing” the world. Michael is at the heart of County issues from homelessness to traffic to reimagining and reinventing our City. Lauren is a Doctor of Pharmacy who earned her degrees locally at UNLV and Roseman University of Health Sciences.
